Which rod and reel for shore fishing?
A longer rod casts farther, and from shore distance matters. For beaches and open lake shores, use an 8 to 10 foot rod with a 4000 to 6000 size spinning reel. For rivers and small lagoons a 6 to 7 foot rod with a 2500 to 3000 reel is enough. See fishing rods and fishing reels.
Which line?
Braid casts farther and transmits bites better; monofilament is cheaper and more forgiving. On the beach, add a heavier fluorocarbon or mono leader so rocks and teeth do not cut you off.
