Offshore fishing gear in Nicaragua
Offshore fishing on Nicaragua’s Pacific coast needs large reels (6000 size and up, or trolling reels), 50 lb or heavier braid, heavy leaders and trolling lures such as squid skirts and deep-diving minnows. We stock them in Rivas, near San Juan del Sur, and in Managua.
Which reel and rod offshore?
Trolling and jigging use short, strong rods with big reels and plenty of drag. A 6000 to 8500 spinning reel works for jigging and casting; trolling uses conventional reels. See fishing reels.
Which line?
50 to 80 lb braid as main line with a heavy fluorocarbon or mono leader.
Which trolling lures?
Squid skirts, long-lip deep divers and metal jigs. See fishing lures.
